Guide to securing your Amazon Alexa

Your Amazon Alexa is tied to an Amazon account. It’s important that your Amazon account is secure, as otherwise someone could gain access to your Alexa or the information Alexa has stored on your account.

You can secure your Amazon account by signing out of all devices, changing your password and setting up two factor-verification on your Amazon account.

To do this, go to www.amazon.co.uk and sign-in to your account.

1. Hover over Accounts & Lists and select Your Account in the drop-down menu.
2. Select Login & security
3. Scroll down to Secure your account and select Edit
4. To sign out of all devices, scroll down and select Sign out everything (note: you will have to sign back into your Amazon account on all of your Alexa devices to be able to use Alexa again).Caution
5. Select continue in the pop-up box to proceed to sign out of all devices.

1. From here, you will be prompted to change your password. Select Change password.
   
2. You will be prompted to send a “One Time Password” (OTP) to your email address or phone number. Check that the phone number or email address listed is correct and secure, then select your preferred option and select send OTP.
   
3. You will then be prompted to enter the one-time passcode and enter a new password. Ensure the password is strong and secure. This means it should not include any personal information that someone could guess and should have a variety of letters, numbers and special characters. Then select save changes and sign-in.

1. Follow the first two actions in Step One to access the login and security page. Then scroll to two-step verification (2SV) settings and select edit.
   

1. Log into your Alexa app on your phone or tablet.
2. Select Communicate in the menu at the bottom of the screen.
3. Select the icon in the top right-hand corner.
4. Contacts who also have the Alexa app and permission to make changes to your account enabled will have a blue tick next to their name. Select the contact you want to block or restrict access to.
5. Ensure that the Allow Drop In setting is toggled off, to prevent the contact from being able to speak to you through your Alexa device. To block the contact, select Block Contact and then select Block Contact again on the pop up window.

1. Open your Amazon Alexa app on your phone or tablet. Select more in the bottom right-hand corner. In the settings menu, select Alexa Privacy.
2. In the Alexa Privacy menu, select Review Voice History.
3. Here, you will find all of your recorded voice commands to Alexa. To delete all of the recordings, select the drop-down menu by Displaying and select All History and All devices. Then select Delete all of my recordings. Caution
4. Go back to the previous menu and select Manage Your Alexa Data.
5. Turn on the slider by Enable deletion by voice to allow you to delete voice recordings by asking Alexa to “delete everything I said today.” Select Choose how long to save recordings and then select Don’t save recordings to prevent Alexa from saving voice commands.
